Cody Moya’s Unethical Bribe?

Cody Moya at FreeInternetMarketingCourses.com recently announced in an email the benefits of commenting on his blog. His subject line says - “Saumil, Here is how to have free link on my PR4 and high traffic page”. In his mail, he goes on to explain how he has added a new wordpress plugin which shows the “top commentors” on the main page of his blog and hundreds of other pages.

While this is surely a valid claim, and people who do end up as the top commentors will get some footage on Moya’s blog; what caught my attention was the somewhat dodgy subject line.

Let me ask you, what is the 1st thing that crosses yor mind when some one says “Get a free link on my PR4 blog page” - I don’t know about you, but majority of the people will thing about grabbing a link an getting some PR juice coming their way. So, like a normal person would I clicked through only to notice that although the claim of ‘top 10′ commentors was spot on, you can only get visual footage. What I mean is, all the outbound links in the comments section from Moya’s blog are attached with a “nofollow” tag. Meaning - NO PR JUICE !!

Here is a screenshot to show you the nofollow tags in effect. (Thanks to Aaron Wall’s SEO plugin for firefox!) Click on the image to enlarge.

Cody Moya nofollow comment links

Anyways, I have nothing against the guy, I am totally sold on the idea of ‘ethical bribes’ to build a community around your blog or forum, but I wasn’t too happy to find myself misguided into getting a free PR4 link!

Dude, this is not an unethical bribe. From what I understand, it’s a complete eye-wash!! :furious_tb:

The USP of this guy is that the commenter will get some rep back from his PR4 page. And when no one’s looking, he hides these very outbound links behind a wall of no-follow tags!

Well well, he underestimated the shrewdness of his email receivers :smoke_tb:

I too share your opinion that Cody Moya is unethical! In a New Year’s 2008 email to me with the headline: “Rick, New Years gift… New Resale Rights Software for $0.00″ I was lead to believe that by opening his email and that by going to his site url I would be allowed to download this “free” software. Unfortunately, his link takes you to an enrollment page, not for “free” software, but for a monthly recurring charge for a service he tells you nothing about in his email! So, after wasting my time going to his site and realizing what was going on here, I went back and tried to email him to tell him, how unethical his email was. Unfortunately, you can’t email him, you have to go through his Marketing.us helpdesk. So, I went there, and opened a ticket, telling them how unethical, I thought his email was. I rep named Patty emailed be back and thanked me for my opinion! So, my opinion is that people should be very weary around this Cody Moya …

I don’t think it is unethical, I mean google will still see the link, and people still might click on it, more so if you get promoted to the homepage. If you feel conned by it, then just look at the source code to check if it has nofollow before posting.
