Wow Me Now - Google Analytics

This is my second attempt(1st attempt was 30 mins back when my browser crashed!) at writing the very same post, and I know it won’t be as thorough as the initial one. But here it is anyways …

After I launched my blog in late March this year, I was constantly on the lookout for a good stats reporting system. After googling for related wordpress plugins, I ended up downloading the much talked about WP-ShortStat. I started using the same and wasn’t really happy with the results, leading me to opt for another plugin - this time StatTraq! It was immediately that I developed a liking for this stat reporting tool and I have been using it (and will continue to) daily to take a bird-eye’s view of what is happening on my blog.

It was only recently(couple of weeks back) that I discovered yet another wordpress plugin for Site Stats, this time more robust, more feature rich and from Google stable. It was very natural that I’d test it. Now that I have had the plugin running for over a week and collected some stats, I am very impressed with the reporting. The plugin [Google Analytics Plugin] developed Denis de Bernardy, adds Google Analytics to your blog, including outbound link tracking. For those of you, who are not aware of this cool new free service, Google Analytics (formerly Urchin, a paid service, which Big G acquired) was launched primarily to assist Google Adwords Advertisers in tracking their campaigns and improving conversions. But thanks to Denis’s plugin, it can also be used with your wordpress blogs, and believe me it works like magic!

Now, that I have seen it in working and loved it, I have no doubts that I’d be using Google Analytics for a couple of my new websites (yeah, they are sales letter based direct marketing sites). Although, I’ll continue to use Stattrak for my blog’s daily stats (I am hooked to its ease of use and intuitive reporting), I now know where to look for to unearth detailed stats on my blog, blog visitors and content.

You guys should also checkout Google’s Conversion University to learn more about marketing and content optimization. It has some pretty insightful articles on testing & tracking, converting visitors and driving traffic to your sites. Also noteworthy is the new Google Analytics Blog (I liked their post on Goals for sites without e-commerce, suits my blog).

Here are a couple of screenshots of the Google Analytics Stats page for SaumilPatel.com :

[...] I kept moving around the floor looking at more and more services and was amazed the see the number of analytics based services on offer to optimize your SEM campaigns. It seems, its the flavour of the day to make your own ‘propriety’ campaign management software. I wonder how much money the smaller players make considering that Google is offering a wonderful service in Google Analytics - Free ! [...]
